Sunshine’s heat, light was pouring in.
I took a seat, I closed my eyes, and then
There on the street, beneath the moon,
By the river Seine,
You took my hand and kissed me tenderly,
Just like you said in a card you wrote to me,
The card you sent from the Rue Pouchet Paris 17B.
“À bientôt, ma petite amie.
À bientôt,” is what you wrote to me.
“À bientôt. Je t’aime beaucoup, merci.”
We made a stop at a small patisserie.
You said the cake was not as sweet as me.
“Tu est trop chère, ma petite amie.
Tu est ma petite fille.”
We stopped and talked, tu parles en anglais.
We stopped and talked, tu parles en français.
And when we stopped, the morning sun’s first rays
Shot high into the sky.
When I awoke, the light was growing dim.
Opened my eyes, then I thought of him,
So far away, and yet so close to me.
Where could he be?
Somebody said he’d gone to Germany.
Now, there’s a place I’d really like to see.
Maybe he’ll send a picture card to me
From across the sea…
